Premieres and Performances by David Hahn |
Composer
David Hahn recently completed a 3-movement suite
for mandolin and guitar called "Passionate
Isolation." The movements are: Ritual,
Misgivings, and March and the piece is about
6 minutes long. Hahn is currently at work on
some electronic music and compositions for choir.
The past season has been a busy one for Hahn.
June 1 saw the performance of his work for percussion
ensemble "Mbira" at Seattle's Kane
Hall by the University of Washington's Percussion
Ensemble directed by Tom Collier. In Apirl,
Hahn's friend, guitarist Cem Duruoz, played
Hahn's "4 Short Pieces for Classical Guitar"
as part of his Carnegie Hall debut program (these
pieces are also available on Duruoz's Centaur
CD "Contemporary Music for Guitar.")
In March, the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet and
the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra gave a series
of 3 performances of Hahn's "Concerto ala
Barocco." An mp3 recording of the premiere
of the Chaconne Movement of this piece is available
on Hahn's
personal website.
Hahn also had a couple of choral pieces premiere
this past season: his Christmas carol "Tirlee,
Tirlo!" and a sacred Renaissance-style
composition called "De omnibus apostolis."
