AUDIO
- VERSION 1.0
The
exhibition presents works in a variety of media, each of which lends
itself differently to the palimpsest concept. The audio works here
are presented as mid-quality mp3 files which will also stream on
hi-bandwidth connections.
loam's
cassette hiss guitar was created by marrying the concepts
of high-end digital production with lo-fidelity home recording.
An electric guitar performance was recorded through an analogue
handheld cassette recorder which was then used to transfer the audio
to a computer. Deliberate mis-handling of audio cables led to sound
dropouts and "tape hiss", which was then re-processed
with a laptop. The final piece is a lush interpretation of the history
of home audio recording.
koura's
field recordings capture moments frozen in time at various
locations throughout Japan. These short digital postcards of sound
provide a wide variety of starting points for future works.
matt
chiabotti's metaxalogical
mo(u)rning
methods was
created by web surfing to sites with audio content. Layers of browser
windows, plug-ins, and sonic textures combine to create a self-contained
history of the world wide web, a starting point for future explorations
of internet history.
