Statement:
For this project, I chose to use Alessandra's
Raking Light. As one already knows Raking Light was created using
no artificial lighting and a minimalist technique. Staying within
the concept of a palimpsest, I have chosen to overwrite Alessandra's
work with yet another minimalist piece which is the visual opposite
of Raking Light. My work, with artificial lighting and no boundaries,
combined with Alessandra's natural lighting and obvious boundaries
equals together all there is available to us. Although visually
this piece is the opposite of Raking Light, it conveys in theory,
quiet contemplation. This work represents a common scene in modern
America. In addition, the parking lot is a metaphor for the next
edition of the Palimpsest project, it is to be paved over and replaced
with only a trace of it left behind.
