+ DIGITAL IMAGERY - VERSION 2.0
Dale
Lloyd's Palim_genesy uses the field recording files provided
by koura in version
1.0 as its basis. The new work contains reworkings of 18 of koura's
original sound files and manipulated digital photography.
By
applying the palimpsest concept at every conceivable level, Lloyd
has created a body of work that is stunning in its adherence to
the "rules" of the exhibition. Not only has he erased
the sounds of the original field recordings and overlayed them with
his own material, but he has also "erased" entire files
in the series in a seemingly random fashion. Everything, even down
to the file names, has been approached with a sophisticated level
of precision. In addition to the field recordings, Lloyd has also
added a new aspect to the work by obtaining source photographs from
koura's original recording session and subsequently erasing and
overlaying them with his own visual work.

DERIVED FROM DIGITAL IMAGERY - VERSION 2.0
Chris
Randall's essay_thirty is a rule-bending take on alessandra's
series of digital photographs. Instead of working with the images
in a visual context, the artist has converted their visual information
into sound by recording and amplifying the radio waves emitted by
his computer's hard drive as the files were accessed. The subsequent
composition has little in common with the soft, repetitive aesthetic
of the original pieces, yet conveys a similar sense of a captured
moment in time which the photographs embody.
