Rick Delaney is currently a faculty member at Southwest Missouri State University in the Computer Animation and Electronic Arts areas. He earned an MFA with emphasis in printmaking from the University of Texas in Austin and his BFA from Florida State University in Tallahassee.

"I investigate communication and interpersonal relationships using a multi-media approach. My main interest is transcending the mundane — examining the power of something 'banal' and transforming its properties to a more dramatic structure. I translate the ordinary through repetition of concepts, by visual and aural means. My artwork is an extension of a need to understand and express my relationships with people and my environment. This investigation includes verbal communication, dreams, texts, sonic art, body movement, and materials.

Movement, time, sound, the environment, and social interactions are parts of our daily lives. I am enveloped by and bombarded with auditory information, images, and touch. Time based media and collaborations enable me to transfer these aspects of my life into my artwork. I use an array of video, film, and audio hardware and software in the making of my artwork. My multi-media approach to making art allows me to be limitless with the use of materials. Much of my current work has been digitally based, including still imagery, sonic artwork, installations and video; however, I am still very involved in performance art and the performing arts."

With communication being a primary focus in his artwork, collaboration is a natural choice for him to work. Collaboration gives the opportunity to exchange ideas and allows a project to evolve in a different manner. To date, Delaney has created sonic works for three dance performances and built large-scale installations for six performances. He is involved with and a founding member of Army of Clowns, an art group that incorporates performance ensembles, video, installations and has an internet gallery website at www.armyofclowns.com. He was also a member of Circus of Fools, a multimedia performance art group that was based in Austin, TX from 1995 -1998.
