Fire is the ultra living element.

We are almost certain that fire is precisely the first object, the first phenomenon, on which the human mind reflected.

In its energetic unfolding the atom is becoming as much as it is being, motion as much as it is object.

- Gaston Bachelard

My piece "Moving while Still" - both visual and sound - is concerned with the notions of motion and fire.

A video was made with my chosen objects (a wooden well-crafted whirligig - on which is written the word "fire", both in Greek and Chinese - and a candle's flame which corresponds to that word) and from that video three still images were extracted. These images were digitally processed, and constructed at the end, as a triptych. Some field-recordings were made of the whirligig's sound on different surfaces. Then the sounds were abstracted on a different plane to form and construct the audio piece.
